In recent years, due to the inadequacy of individual intelligent technologies, in what regards a number of aspects of information systems, there has been an overwhelming amount of research work on systems, methods or techniques that integrate more than one intelligent technology. Some of these efforts combine what are called Soft-computing methods (Fuzzy Logic, Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms) either among themselves or with more traditional Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Logic and Expert Systems. Another stream of efforts integrates Case-based Reasoning and Machine Learning with Soft-computing and traditional AI. Yet another integrates Agents technology with Logic and also non-symbolic approaches. Finally, there are efforts to integrate AI and non-AI technologies, such as those integrating Data Mining with Databases, AI and Knowledge Management with Software Engineering, as well as Web-based applications, the Semantic Web, and the development of hybrid representations for reasoning about ontologies.
The Special Track (ST) seeks for quality papers on systems, methods or techniques that integrate an AI technology/methodology with another AI or non-AI technology/methodology. Topics of interest include (but not limited to) the following:
Case-based Reasoning Integrations
Fuzzy Expert Systems
Genetic Algorithms Integrations
Hybrid Knowledge Representation Systems
Integrations of Data Mining and Databases
Integrations of Data Mining and Knowledge Management
Interested authors should format their papers according to AAAI formatting guidelines. The papers should not exceed 6 pages and are due by October 22nd, 2004. Submissions will be done electronically via the FLAIRS web submission system available at http://earth.cs.ccsu.edu/~flairs/submission.html, must be original work and should not identify author(s) in any manner. All papers will be refereed by members of the program committee of the ST and other designated reviewers, according to the main conference procedure.
All accepted papers will be included in the FLAIRS-2005 proceedings, published by AAAI Press. AAAI proceedings format is required for the camera ready copy. One of the authors of each accepted paper is expected to present it at the track. Selected papers may receive best-paper awards. Authors may be invited to submit a revised copy of their paper to a special issue of the International Journal on AI Tools (IJAIT).
